Welcome to the Keweenaw Time Traveler
Have you ever stood at the top of Quincy Hill and wondered what it looked like at the height of copper mining? Ever walked down 5th Street in Calumet and wondered about all the people who have walked past those storefronts?
Welcome to the Keweenaw Time Traveler! This project is creating a tool that will let you drill down through layers of history in any particular location throughout Keweenaw, Houghton, and Ontonagon Counties from the 1880s up to the present day. Explore historic maps, learn the names and occupations of the people who owned and occupied old buildings, track changing equipment at mining locations, and see historic photos from museum and archive collections.
Want to get involved? Starting in June 2017, we will need volunteers. Become a Citizen Historian and help us transcribe old documents, classify features of old maps, and tag properties. Plus, contribute your own family histories or personal memories of your favorite Keweenaw places. The project is just getting started. Sign up for more information and get ready to Time Travel the Keweenaw with us!
